Established in 1874, Kingman County's population is 10,865 and has mostly grassland covering red sand. The City of Kingman is the county seat. Across the north part of the county the South Fork of the Ninnescah River crosses and across the southern part, the Chikaskia River crosses. They huge Byron Walker game preserve and public hunting area is the heart of the county. 4,500 acres of hunting access, nature trail, bird watching and fishing. A small portion of Cheney State Lake is also in Kingman County. The 1,700 acre park features fishing, boating, camping, swimming, water skiing, privately owned marina and sailboat marina.
